About Us

The Chebucto Symphony Orchestra was founded in 1975 by Kenneth Elloway, music director until his death in 1980. The orchestra has continued under the baton of a number of fine musicians including Brian March, James Williams, Edmond Agopian, John Rapson, Christoph Both, Jordan Grigg, Christopher Palmer, Peter Oleskevich, Stephanie McKeown and currently Melissa Doiron.

The orchestra provides dedicated amateur musicians within the local community with the opportunity to perform the great symphonic works, and to bring classical music to local audiences. The repertoire has varied from early classical to contemporary 20th Centuryand the Chebucto Symphony Orchestra has supported contemporary composers by premiering five late-20th century works.

The Chebucto Orchestral Society of Nova Scotia is an entirely self-supporting organization, operated by a volunteer board of directors drawn from the players themselves.
