Melissa Doiron
Music Director
Melissa Doiron is the assistant conductor of Chebucto Symphony Orchestra, and Music Director at Charles P. Allen High School in Bedford, Nova Scotia. She has guest conducted ensembles such as the Dalhousie Wind Ensemble, Dartmouth & Sackville Concert Band, and Nova Sinfonia, amongst others. She is a featured clinician with numerous groups, including the Nova Scotia Youth Wind Ensemble.
Melissa has proven to be a leader in music education, combining her love of conducting and yoga to present a workshop at the Nova Scotia Music Educators conference. She is an advocate for mental and physical health in the fine arts, incorporating that into her pedagogical practice.
Melissa performs frequently with numerous ensembles throughout the city such as Nova Sinfonia, Halifax Opera Festival and was a featured soloist with Sackville Concert Band in their 2017/18 season. She has studied conducting with Dr. Philip Djokic, Dr. Vernon Reghr, Dr. Doug Dunsmore, and Dr. Mark Hopkins, with degrees from Memorial University of Newfoundland (B. Mus, B.MusEd), Saint Mary’s University (CMSE), and Acadia University (M.Ed).
