Now in its 39th year, with some musicians participating since conception, Messiah from Scratch brings orchestral musicians and singers of all ages together to support Feed Nova Scotia and the Chebucto Symphony Orchestra. Messiah music scores are provided for a quick, one-hour rehearsal and then performed for the public, from scratch.
Guest Conductor, Messiah from Scratch 2017
Eszter Horvath holds a B.Mus. degree from Dalhousie University, and is equally versed in orchestral and choral conducting. She has a special interest in Renaissance and Baroque music, and is the president of the Early Music Society of Nova Scotia (EMSNS). She was associate conductor of the Nova Scotia Youth Choir in 2013 and 2014, and also directs the EMSNS Madrigal Group, which she founded in 2012. Eszter is proficient on violin and viola, having served as concertmaster at Cardinal Carter Academy for the Arts (Toronto) and principal second violinist in the Chebucto Symphony Orchestra (2006-2011). An avid singer, she is a founding member of the newly formed professional quintet Helios Vocal Ensemble, and a soprano with the Prince Edward Consort. Eszter has previously guest conducted Nova Sinfonia and the Chebucto Symphony; she has enjoyed conducting Halifax’s Messiah from Scratch event for the past four years.
